AAAE & AEA Consulting Online Workshop on Scenario Planning in the Classroom

Initially in response to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, The Wallace Foundation commissioned AEA Consulting to create a scenario planning toolkit, seeking to help arts and culture organizations extent their planning horizons and deal with the likelihood of increased change and complexity – thinking beyond near-term predictions and being more imaginative about multiple possible futures and directions.

Join us for an online workshop discussing scenario planning on January 14th at 1:00pm with Daniel Payne, managing principal of AEA Consulting. He will introduce the concepts underpinning scenario planning, discuss how AEA Consulting created the tools, and highlight key trends and directions in each of the four scenarios included in the toolkit. He will also discuss how scenario planning might be taught in a classroom setting as a way to engage the next generation of leaders.

Attendees will then have an opportunity to experience elements of a scenario planning process - breaking up into smaller groups and assigned a scenario to work with. Each small group will be provided a series of prompts focusing on opportunities and challenges facing arts leaders and discuss how the sector (as artists, organizations, educators) might respond in their assigned scenario.

The webinar will then conclude by sharing takeaways from the group discussions, highlighting common threads between scenarios, and discussing further questions after the experience.
