In emotionally and socially charged situations, adolescents are more likely to engage in risky behavior with negative, sometimes dangerous consequences. Hypersensitive to sensation or any experience that feels rewarding, adolescents are equally ripe to respond positively to fulfilling social and emotional experiences. The imbalance between an adolescent’s cognitive and their emotional development is natural and adaptive. What is adaptive in some situations can be maladaptive in others, especially if teens are experiencing stress or trauma. Colleen Judge has over 25 years of experience working closely with adolescents and their families. In this webinar, she will help parents understand the most up-to-date thinking about the nature of adolescent risk-taking and offer ways that parents can communicate with their teens to help them make choices that balance safety with their innate need for exploration and growth.
