A fascinating educational Soiree Lecture (With refreshments if in-person: wine, cheese and crackers*).
First lecture focus on Peninah Moise: The Debbie Friedman of the 19th century
American Jewish poet and liturgist, educator, of Sephardic and Reform traditions.
This lecture will include some reading of her poetry both secular and religious, some singing of her liturgical pieces (all English), and some background on her influence on the Reform movement in the U.S. We would also provide some context on the earliest (Sephardic) congregations, the influence of 2 of them on the Reform movement and a bit of history on the historic Beth Elohim Congregation of Charleston, SC.
