In this our final Mandelbaum Family Lecture of the 2020-2021 series, local artist and educator Guri Stark will lead us through a fascinating discussion of an amazing period in which the small country of the Netherlands became the foremost economic power in the world – the Dutch Golden Age. This artistic journey will take you through the causes of the Golden Age and the results where Netherland’s commerce, Science, military and art became the most acclaimed in the world and it produced some of the best artists ever – the Dutch masters.

Guri will also discuss Rembrandt’s amazing life and art, why he is considered one of the most important artists in the history of art, as well as additional art masters such as Vermeer, Frans Halls and Jan Steen. Additionally, we will compare the Dutch masters with the Flemish art masters (Peter Pail Rubens, Van Dyck, Van Eycks, Bruegel), and put it all in the context of the Great European Baroque period.
