The time for a Wellbeing Economy is now. During this event, we will hear female and non-binary perspectives from leaders at the forefront of economic systems change and explore what a gender-equal economy with wellbeing at its core would look like.
The current economic system has led to huge inequalities in wealth and power, as well as the destruction of the environment. A stark assessment of our planet's future very recently delivered by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), along with the disproportionate impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women, highlight two of the many reasons why we have now reached the tipping point for a meaningful transition that empowers women to co-create the new economy we all need.
Participants will hear from: Dr Milena Buchs (University of Leeds), Anna Fielding (Economic Change Unit), Denisha Killoh (WEAll Scotland) and Nonhlanhla Makuyan (Decolonising Economics), and will have the chance to share their own experiences. We will also welcome contributions from politicians as ‘keynote listeners’ including Mandu Reid (Women's Equality Party) and Caroline Lucas MP, who is backing an official parliamentary petition, created by a member of the public, which calls for the UK Government to shift to a Wellbeing Economy. Sign it here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/580646
Everyone will be invited to take part in an interactive discussion on how we can build a new economy that meets the needs of all beings and the planet, and why it’s important for women to take the lead in that transformation.
