Ricky's Pride Presents - Sunday School: LGBT Cultural Competency Training for Democrats and Democratic Campaigns

Presented by Todd Snovel, this presentation will focus on the importance of awareness, understanding, and respect for LGBTQ+ individuals living in our communities. It will include understanding for candidates, elected officials, campaign staff, area leaders, municipal chairs, democratic committee people, and volunteers on identity and intersectionality, considering cultural conditioning, and thinking about moving from knowledge to action to become active allies to all LGBTQ+ constituents.

1. Introductions and purpose for our conversations
2. Overview on LGBTQ identities and key terms
3. Intersections of identity
4. Understanding societal oppression of LGBTQ+ identities (homophobia, heterosexism, heteronormativity)
5. Use of language and resources
6. Intentional steps that political leaders can consider integrating
7. Making mistakes (understanding microaggressions)
8. Review of allyship checklist
