World Water Day Webinar: Accelerating change in water challenges in the Pacific
World Water Day has been held every year since 1993. This year’s theme is ‘Accelerating change’ and is focused on delivering on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and sanitation for all by 2030.

The world is seriously off track to meet this goal, with billions of people and countless schools, businesses, healthcare centres, farms and factories don’t have the safe water and toilets they need.

The problem is particularly acute in the Pacific, which has the lowest levels of access to water and sanitation. The region’s populations are also vulnerable to extreme natural events and are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change, many of which are water-related. Water Stewardship has an important role to play in progressing water challenges in the region.

In this webinar we’ll be focusing on water in the Pacific. There will be two key presentations, with time for questions and discussion, addressing key responses to the water and climate situation in the region.

Sarah Ransom, General Manager of the Australian Water Partnership, will present on AWP’s approach to supporting sustainable and climate resilient water resource management in the Pacific and beyond;, including how AWP is approaching partnerships with Pacific organisations.

We’ll also hear from members of CSIRO’s new Pacific Project on its work to increase food security in the region - something that relies intimately on improving the full range of Water Stewardship issues in areas of governance, water balance and quality, environmental protection, WASH and social and cultural inclusion.
