NEM 2023: I belong, sense of belonging in engineering students with a focus on women and visible minorities'

The event will focus on the results from a survey of uOttawa engineering students which investigates students sense of belonging (There are ~ 30 questions which focus on how factors like gender, cultural background and discipline of study impact students feeling of belonging in engineering). The survey was developed by Leah Kristufek with support from Dr. Mavriplis who previously held the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering from 2011 to 2021. This event would expand on the results presenting a more nuanced discussion. The focus is on education about factors which influence success of students from different groups and to have discussion which will lead to a more inclusive educational environment that will hopefully carry through into industry.
