Maintaining Mental Health in Academia: Combatting Impostor Syndrome and other Challenges
This two-hour session aims to provide guidance on mental health challenges ECRs may face in academia, with a particular focus on impostor syndrome. The first part will generate a general discussion about imposter syndrome from an ECR, a Professor and a Wellbeing Promotion Officer and their varying perspectives, and will offer some helpful toolkits and self-reflective exercises for participants to practice independently. While this workshop is not designed to be a therapy / counselling session there will be an additional trained University counsellor on hand in case the conversation is challenging for individuals. Following the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity to work in breakout rooms to identify areas of mental health and well-being which Universities are currently doing well in providing training and support and to pin-point areas which might need to be better addressed by Higher Education in the future. Notes from these breakout sessions may form an informal recommendation report for the Learned Society of Wales.

Nod y sesiwn ddwy awr hon yw rhoi arweiniad ar heriau iechyd meddwl y gallai Ymchwilwyr Gyrfa Cynnar eu hwynebu yn y byd academaidd, gan ganolbwyntio'n benodol ar syndrom twyllwr. Bydd y rhan gyntaf yn creu trafodaeth gyffredinol am syndrom twyllwr a’u safbwyntiau amrywiol gan Ymchwilydd Gyrfa Cynnar, Athro a Swyddog Hybu Lles, a bydd yn cynnig pecynnau cymorth defnyddiol ac ymarferion hunanfyfyrio i gyfranogwyr eu hymarfer yn annibynnol. Er nad yw'r gweithdy hwn wedi'i gynllunio i fod yn sesiwn therapi / cwnsela, bydd cwnselydd prifysgol hyfforddedig ychwanegol wrth law rhag ofn bod y sgwrs yn heriol i unigolion. Yn dilyn y drafodaeth banel, bydd cyfle i weithio mewn ystafelloedd trafod i nodi meysydd iechyd meddwl a lles y mae Prifysgolion yn gwneud yn dda ynddynt ar hyn o bryd o ran darparu hyfforddiant a chymorth, ac i nodi meysydd y gallai fod angen i Addysg Uwch fynd i'r afael â nhw'n well yn y dyfodol.
