Weaponized Pilgrimage
Can history be weaponized? Millions of Christian pilgrims travel to the Holy Land every year, visiting holy sites and historic locations important to their faith. But how these sites are “discovered” and explored has profound impacts on the communities living above them. What do religious pilgrims to the Holy Land need to know before they go?

Join us as we hear from Alon Arad of Emek Shaveh, an organization working to defend cultural heritage rights and protect ancient sites as public assets that belong to members of all communities, faiths and peoples. We’ll discuss Emek Shaveh’s work challenging those who use archaeological sites to dispossess disenfranchised communities, and how to approach pilgrimage in ways that promote mutual flourishing over the entrenchment of conflict.
