Mellowfields Farm, Rommey Farms, and Simple Abundance Farm are participating in this series.
Kansas Specialty Crop Spotlight Series
For the past four years Kansas Farmers Union has participated in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), Produce Safety Grant offered in collaboration with National Farmers Union and USDA. The program offers training specifically in proper food safety procedures when growing, handling and distributing food to consumers.

In a typical year we would offer in person training sessions and farm tours. “The Year 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic was anything but typical and presented us with the challenge of how to deliver our program, without being able to be together in person, for the safety of our members and participants. Not to be discouraged we worked directly with three farms to film and provide education in the form of virtual education by ZOOM Webinars,” reports Mary Howell, KFU Education Specialist.

The upcoming webinars highlight the three specialty crop farmer families that graciously participated with our program. With Daylight Savings Time, the webinars will start at 8:00 p.m. and run for one hour:
Thursday, April 15, 2021 Rommey Farms
Thursday, April 22, 2021 Simple Abundance Farm
Thursday, April 29, 2021 Mellowfields Farm
All of the webinars will focus on the farmers, their own unique operations along with the story of how they strive to produce the most nutritious and flavorful foods utilizing the best management practices to provide safe food to their consumers.

Plan to join the webinar, Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. by Zoom, for the personal stories of these three farm families and their journey to produce safe, nutritious food for their families and friends. The connection those growers have to the customers they produce for is of utmost importance.
