Trauma and the Brain 101 [Baltimore]
Trauma-informed coaches have an understanding of how the human brain responds to stress and trauma and can recognize that the behavior of young people tells a powerful story. This session clarifies the importance for trauma-sensitive coaches to understand that there’s more than what meets the eye when it comes to the reactions young people may have in our programs.

Coaches will be able to:
Define “stress response” and describe how the brain reacts to stress
Identify the three most common stress responses
Define “trigger” and establish its role in the stress response
Apply empathy and perspective-taking when coaching youth participants who may be demonstrating symptoms of trauma
Apply the principles of 'behavior tells a story' to their own coaching practices.
