Tom Schuch and Lee Howard on "The Negro Motorist Green Book in New London and Stonington" with Special Honored Guests*: Downing Simmons Jr., Gregory Simmons and Lynne Stallworth
The Negro Motorist Green Book (1936-1967) was more than just a simple Travel Guide: more importantly, it was a SURVIVAL Guide for Black travelers, and it has now become a History Book, a 'read-between-the-lines' chronicle of mid-20th century life for both Black and white, North and South, including New London and Stonington, in Jim Crow America.

*Special Honored Guests: Downing Simmons, Jr, (from Ontario, Canada), Gregory Simmons, (from North Carolina) and Lynne Stallworth (New Jersey), grandchildren of Minnie Carter, will be joining the Zoom to share their personal and family recollections, stories and experiences of The Orchard House. Minnie Carter, together with her sister, Gertrude Owens, founded, owned and operated The Orchard House in Stonington at two different locations from 1938 -1973.
