Let’s Talk About It. Stigma and the Silence that still surround mental illness, addiction, and suicide continues to prevent people from choosing life-saving treatment options. It’s time to end the silence and take actionable steps to make a difference in the lives of those who are fighting every day.
Our presenter, Xavier Whitford, is the Founder and Executive Director of Tommy Corral Memorial Foundation and Each Breath of Faith Ministries. A wife of a Pastor, mother, and Gigi. Xavier has spoken at many schools, churches and organizations inspiring and educating groups of all ages to end the stigma surrounding mental health. Xavier shares her insights and personal story of losing her son, Tommy, to suicide with anyone and everyone who will listen to her effort to “end the silence.” As a Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Xavier has taught Mental Health First Aid to hundreds of individuals; arming communities with individuals who are now trained to handle a mental health crisis – including members of area law enforcement agencies. As a facilitator for teen groups, she encourages those living with depression or bipolar to meet with other interested people who come to support each other. In addition to these responsibilities, Xavier currently serves on the board for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (Northern Illinois), where she helps align efforts for outreach for those living with mental illness. Her personal story, tireless commitment, and passion to improve awareness and education around these topics has made her a powerful advocate to the mental health community.
