Wesley Paláu (They/Them/Their (English), Élle (Spanish)), assistant director of equity and inclusion at the Pride Center at San Diego State University, will lead a SafeZones training at the next meeting of the Social Justice in Science Writing club. This session is designed to train allies who help create an accepting and supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning individuals.
Please register as soon as you can—we will close registration one week prior to the event to ensure we have an accurate sense of attendance. Note the process will take approximately two hours.
In preparation for this conversation, please read the Open Notebook article, “Making Your Writing and Reporting Transgender-Inclusive.” Link: bit.ly/3tlmNIp
The training is very generously being offered free of charge. To express our gratitude, we encourage donations to The Pride Center Community Care Fund, which helps students who have been through difficult, life-altering situations as a result of coming out as or for being LGBTQ+. (Students who have experienced these situations have also expressed financial hardship, risking their ability to be academically successful.) A $20 donation is suggested, but any amount is greatly appreciated. Link: https://tinyurl.com/PCCommunityCare
