Virtual Sandwiched In with Patricia DelGiorno - Women War Correspondents During WWII
In the 1940’s, women journalists had to fight to cover WWII, the biggest war in history. Although female correspondents were barred from combat zones, women writers were determined to go where the action was. As part of the Library's celebration of Women's History Month, the Library is proud to offer this program given by historian Patricia DelGiorno who has made an extensive study of the role of women during wartime. In this presentation Ms. DelGiorno will highlight the experiences of the women journalists who broke the rules and defied the notion that war coverage was the exclusive province of male writers. That defiance and the quality of their reporting opened the doors to women covering war today.
Included in the program are film clips about their experiences.
