As part of the West Penn Trolley Meet: At Home Edition, the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is hosting a series of talks and slideshows about transit and transportation on June 26 and June 27, the originally-scheduled dates of the meet. Thank you for joining us!
Today’s modern-day amusement parks can trace their roots back to simple picnic groves and recreational parks that were owned and operated by local transportation companies, from steam-powered railroads to electric streetcar lines. Western Pennsylvania was once home to numerous trolley parks that are now lost to memory and newspaper archives. Author Jennifer Sopko will share images and the history of forgotten trolley parks as part of her research for her forthcoming book on lost Western Pennsylvania amusement parks.
