Hi Linda!

01:16:09
in NC we are seeing Charters contribute strongly to resegregation.

01:25:52
Some history on the idea of charter schools as places of experimention vs. the market bases system we've ended up with: https://www.aft.org/ae/winter2014-2015/kahlenberg_potter

01:27:54
AMEN to public ed as the Common Good!!!

01:30:07
standardized testing is racist.

01:32:40
Campbell's Law applies to high-stakes standardized testing in textbook-like fashion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campbell%27s_law

01:34:05
VERY helpful, Jennifer and Jack, on HST!!!

01:34:14
High Stakes Testing

01:35:41
Jefferson County in FL is also all charter

01:37:00
Thank you Jennifer and Jack! I wanted to hear more about what your research has said about charters and testing through the lens of racial equity in education.

01:39:21
As long as Charters are not required to provide transportation or food, they can’t address equity.

01:40:00
What a great question!!

01:40:15
Magnets are a better way to achieve equity and desegregation than Charters. Magnets are part of the traditional public system.

01:41:11
Community is at the heart of faith

01:41:23
Love your neighbor as yourself

01:41:47
Might need a follow up webinar!

01:42:05
Let’s do it, Jennifer!

01:43:08
Agreed on Magnets if at the younger grades you can enter as a beginner with no knowledge or training.

01:43:43
I agree on follow evidence based data, as long as the data is derived by many factors

01:44:16
We have lots of choice options in Dallas schools. Some are magnets, others are all girls schools, others IB, others Montesorri, etc

01:48:07
Dallas ISD also has Transformation schools that are intentionally economically and racially/culturally diverse. There is no academic requirement even at the middle and high school levels.

01:48:51
I attended a magnet high school in NYC. Brooklyn Tech. Been a strategy there for about 75 years. But now the test to get in is being challenged by the mayor for the outcomes not being adequate for racial and economic diversity

01:49:04
Equity on entrance to magnets is key! Children wanting enter arts magnets shouldn’t be required to have had private dance or music lessons

01:49:21
Yes! My 3rd grader is on his 4th year of Robotics electives!

01:50:52
Rachel, that’s interesting… here’s our are based only on socio-economic diversity

01:51:26
Thank you all for a great conversation! I look forward to the next time!

01:51:56
Great dialogue!,

01:52:04
Duval County where we are has done a great job of making sure no previous knowledge/skill is required to enter K-5 and middle school magnets.

01:52:10
Great conversation, I learned so much!

01:53:01
Thank you for hosting! Pastors for NC Children’s Board committed to reading this book this week over our next few meetings! Hope we can host one of these in NC soon!

01:55:33

01:55:49
HAVE YOU HEARD PODCAST!
