always new how to sew as a teenager. Have a degree in design and had a previous employer that asked me to make a balloon shade. kept having more folks contact me. I have truly loved it. been in business for 39 years.

I have always done this part time, but I'm trying to move into full time. My full time job is in the building industry and I'm really tired of it.

Yes! Apart from getting to do what I love, there is no greater joy than seeing clients thrilled with their project or 'new' space design! As an interior designer who loves designing soft furnishings, I get to indulge in both worlds! Being invited to go on this adventure with them is an honour.
Heather Cannon

I say I'm a seamstress. I have a degree in Interior Decorating so I often help the decorator make decisions. I'm definitely the creative type. Not the business type.. I'd like to learn how to become more professional...I know I have the ability, just not the business knowledge.

Yes, I think it depends on how many hours I have worked on it, as to whether I beat myself up for it. However, I am so excited when I finally do accomplish that new task.

Recently I was very unhappy with several round pillows I had sewn for a client. The next day I attended your webinar fabricating round pillows and realized what I had done wrong. I called my client and asked her for the privilege of making them even better. She was thrilled that I would offer to make them better, and she was pleased with the result. It was so much easier than living with that sick feeling in my stomach for a less than perfect job.
Jamie Terral
48:44
Wow, Marty! So brave and I admire that so much.

Donna, if I may ask of you and your audience, have you come across clients who do not view your business with the same respect if you work out of your home versus having a formal storefront or building space? That can certainly pop a vision!
Alex Todd
01:00:13
If so, what is a good response to that?
Jamie Terral
01:05:23
Alex, I love being home, for sure. My overhead is less! I also can absolutely control my environment so that my fabrics and workspace stays absolutely clean and cool. I don't have a landlord that might allow a smoke shop next to me or the smell from chemical from a salon or dry cleaner. A leaky roof or faulty HVAC. My moisture levels are consistent. My two sense.
Marty Irwin
01:05:52
It's never been a problem for me. I think it makes me more relatable.
Alex Todd
01:08:23
Thank you all so much. Donna I think something for sure resonated, in terms of value for your costs. Some folks seem to think because you work out of your home, that your costs for your services should be less etc.
