FEEDBACK FRIDAY: Wild Pigment Project - Shared screen with speaker view
Who can see your viewing activity?
I just turned the chat on to ask Tilke questions and though we can’t answer many, I’ll ask if she can answer for the blog post later.
What do you mix with the pigments to make your paint?
I was curious…how exhausted can an indigo vat be to make it into a paint pigment? I have a very exhausted indigo vat but would it be too far gone?
I’d love to know more about how to make Lake from exhaust bath! Maybe the name of a book or blog post?
(Also more details about that pigment residency!!!)
can you use rock mineral pigments on cloth? and do you just use a mortar and pestle?
Tilke, thank you so much for talking about giving respect to land! It’s something I was taught as a child, being Filipino, and practice it everywhere I’ve lived and dwelled :)
I’d love to learn more about how Tilke connected with the indigenous community
Hello Tilke! I’m wondering how you think about nourishment, food systems, and ingesting botanical pigments. Thank you for this beautiful and generous sharing.
I just read how the flower of my indigo vat can be dried and then used as pigment. I tried this yesterday but need to know what to mix with? Any advice?
Could you use these pigments for screen printing on textiles and/or paper?
That is incredibly interesting!
Wonderful paintings remind me of the work of Hilma Af Klint in terms of marks, texture, color, composition and inspiration and I loved your opening statement. I’m most curious about how the iron pigments mix with plant dyes - what has been the most surprising combination?
Also interested by Janet McGarry’s question about screen printing
Yes more details on the pigment residency and how we can subscribe to the pigment library in Washington. Thanks!
Rock Beings is my new favorite expression!
Absolutely awesome. A whole new area for me. Thanks.
amy and kathy can you link these artists for us? i’d love to learn more about them.
could you incorporate these natural pigments into 3D objects such as in clay structures?
pigment can be use on fabric? does it hold? does it need mordant ?
can they be made colorfast enough to incorporate into textiles?
