I remember Bill McDougall talking about the cost of building being cost inhibitive with building cost increases. It was a good point.

01:32:02
ADUs can also be quite expensive to build - cost is one barrier.

THANK YOU to Beth and Gloria and Deanne for your work on this subject in Silverton.

I think something else I would like to address or hear more about is what to do about the empty homes apartments above some under utilized businesses.

Sallie,
melodyskinner
01:43:08
thanks for brining up the past population. I think most homes were smaller
melodyskinner
01:44:22
I also think we need to look at more town home type buildings

Something I read about Tiny Homes often, is that all of the toys do not fit in the home. So, a Tiny Home with a shed?
Dayna Kranker
01:48:17
And we'll likely need to allow for some more building of storage units if we do Tiny Homes. Maybe Tiny Homes with storage units?
melodyskinner
01:48:39
Dayna, good idea.
Klem Branner
01:48:43
We should define what we mean by tiny homes. Do they have foundations or wheels?
melodyskinner
01:49:29
I think we should look at Tiny Homes AND small square footage homes.
Melissa Childs
01:49:39
Tiny home on wheels is considered “camper/RV” in our town code.
Dayna Kranker
01:49:46
Oh, my last thought related to Lois' comment on vacated homes was if there's a social service or business opportunity to help older residents who have moved out of our community transition out of their homes and help relatives clean/out sell homes. Some relatives may find it totally overwhelming to vacate a home here after an elder has moved into assisted living or passed away.

01:50:03
Melissa, Does it have to be that way in the future?
Tracy Boeyink
01:50:44
I’ve don a lot of work on re-drafting town code to allow tiny houses. There are building codes that can be used - doesn’t have to mean tiny’s on wheels.

Dayne, Are you calling me old?;))

An article in the silverton standard last winter said only %40 percent of housing in silverton is occupied during the winter
Melissa Childs
01:51:32
I believe they have to be on foundations to meet current building code.

A lot of summer business owners run a business elsewhere in the winter. It does not mean that housing is not valuable.

Having a full time Doctor will not work. An individual Dr will not be in most health insurance plans. So their income is limited.

I love these conversations. It gets us all together to brainstorm.
Dayna Kranker
01:55:15
Clark, do you numbers include Anvil Subdivision and other County data? Or just Town?
melodyskinner
01:55:16

Thank you everyone. I find that we often speak about what could happen vs what we have traditionally think should happen.
