From an article in The Nation Magazine, I learned that less the 4% of all vouchers in Seattle were used. How do we get citizens to actually use their vouchers? Most just thew them away or put them aside and never gave them to anyone.

Distrust of government is a recursive phenomenon. The less trust for example the fewer mask up and vaccinate, the fewer do so, the more government is proven to be ineffective.

47:05
Wouldn't tax reform help, by advancing the equalization of the level of funds available to a wider group of citizens?

54:57
What is the current status of bringing Vouchers state wide in WA?

Can you talk more about how you fund this program on a municipal program? Is it similar to a matching fund program, in that there is a pool of money sponsored by city/state that is then used and allocated to candidates?

So if you live on an island in lake Washington, you're very likely to donate to campaigns? lol

01:02:45
Any idea on differences in $/time for a municipality administering a matching funds program compared to a democracy voucher program?

01:02:48
Would this concept be particularly useful for federal elections?

01:03:22
Love seeing Ken but now he is on my screen and not you or the presenter.

Wouldn't disclosure of voucher use be tantamount to disclosure of how voters voted?

01:09:03
Michael, since you have multiple vouchers, you might actually give to more than one candidate - and since we don't have RCV yet you still can only vote for one of them.

01:13:23
Please raise your hand if you would like to ask a question. It’s under reactions.

01:14:04
I adored this article from earlier in the year where a writer found that folks were using their vouchers for multiple candidates in the same race! It’s well worth a read. The writer’s conclusion was that voters deep down support more than one candidate, and they would probably prefer a better election system like ranked-choice voting: https://www.theurbanist.org/2021/03/23/why-are-seattle-democracy-voucher-users-funding-opposing-campaigns/

Do you have data on the racial demographics of folks who used the vouchers?

01:15:31
In Seattle or otherwise.

01:16:11
Would anonymization of the aggregate donor data break the value of the disclosures?

01:16:33

I am a domestic violence survivor in the Washington State Address Confidentiality program, so my voting address is protected information- has accommodation been created for people in this program?

01:21:25
Is there any template for voucher programs where non-voting residents (non-citizens, young people for example) can participate in the voucher programs?

01:22:27
That is great for candidate outreach!

01:22:59
I ALSO think that would be cool!! :)

01:24:12
What is the city in NH that is thinking about this? I’m in Maine and would love to know our neighbors who are working on this!
