Why do you think it has been so hard to get money allocated to mental health in Colorado?
Amanda Bent (she/her) | Spring Institute

Harm reduction approaches are humane and cost effective. Thanks for keeping that in this conversation!
Judy Amabile

Susan I think part of the problem is that people with serious mental illness are either unseen or if they are on the street they can seem scary to people. There isn’t a lot of sympathy for this group.
Judy Amabile

Thank you Theresa … I work with homeless sheltering in motels and we find if we can just get some mental health services to that sheltered people do better. We're trying to get that kind of access for people when needed.

As a retired PT, I’m so aware of the problem of social determinants of health. The legislature received the results of the CO School of Public Health study in response to HR 19-1176, which showed that the state could save billions off the top if it created its own universal health plan, compared with what we have now. Access to care is a huge issue in CO, including for Mental Health. Would you support a bill at some point?

Are non-public hospitals reluctant to open psychiatric beds because these do not reimburse as well as medical beds? What happened to parity? Can the state encourage hospitals to expand beds?
Chaer Robert-CCLP
01:05:26
IS there an issue of emergency rooms of hospitals being stressed by MH emergencyies? Or is it just the prisons or Jails impacted?
Susan Stark

Unless profit is taken out of health care, we won’t be able to provide quality care for everyone.
