Wow - so many thoughts and interesting perspectives. Systems (existing) do not pivot quickly! Even changing the way they view ownership of data.
Chloe Guinaudie
01:44:42
Completely agree about language as a barrier!
Chloe Guinaudie
01:46:04
The words we are using but also the actual languages we are using. The way we talk about ourselves and wellness
Chloe Guinaudie
01:47:07
The language we use to talk about ourselves and wellness is often our mother-tongue - which is not French and/or English for all you! And wellness terminology is different in different languages and cultures *
Sydney Graham
01:49:47
Do you have families around these tables in solving these problems?
Dana Sharp-McLean

Any questions for our panelists so far❓ Please drop them in the chat here and we'll note them down and make space for them to answer/respond 💬
Quentin Broad
02:13:44
IYS provision in many provinces means clients engage across multiple platforms and therefore different EHR platforms and therefore different data sets that don't talk to each other - Infrastructure investment in the NFP space is not openly encouraged by funders -so how do the panelists see us bridging these gaps/platforms?
Sydney Graham
02:17:01
How accurate is the data?
Dana Sharp-McLean
02:17:50
Great question, Quentin!
Mary Hanna
02:18:33
@Aiden - agreed! Continued transparency about client care is most important!

I love Aiden's perspective. Many medical systems are very paternalistic and seem to condescend to those receiving services.

Thank you so much for this incredible discussion.I have been informed that there needs to be more data to ensure supports for children impacted by a parent’s unhealed trauma and subsequent substance use. However, the stigma of addictions has prevented this data, while at the same time, there is an abundance of literature on how trauma and addictions impacts a parent’s behaviours, how stress in childhood impacts children, and the numbers of children impacted (atleast 1 in 6).Further to this, the stigma of addictions prevents youth from wanting to engage in roundtable discussions that would highlight this issue in youth and ensure their voice is represented. From your lens:Why are there no policy or supports that would enable a child’s healing and prevent the cycle of stress in families? How can we ensure the voices of children and youth who are being impacted by the stigma of a parent’s addiction are heard at these round tables that are informing policy and practices?
Agnes Chen
02:23:49
Thank you AnnMarie. How do we include children whose parents have an addiction and have not reached out for support such as peer support or treatment?
Dana Sharp-McLean
02:25:37
Great question. From my perspective as an addiction service provider, I encountered barriers getting prevention and supportive programming in schools for children of people using substances. I knew there were many parents - simply because many were treatment clients of ours. But the folks in charge thought that they would "obviously" know about families with addiction issues as they would come to the people in schools with these concerns. Many don't even speak with their family docs about these issues!
Sydney Graham
02:26:54
Would love to see the stress of families prevented. As we know many have addictions because of existing mental health and self medicating. How do we help all these wonderful families who have children with a brain disease and no input into the cause of the addiction other than biological get the support they need and reduce stigma (thinking addictions is always from trauma, usually from family) Not true
Agnes Chen
02:27:07
Thanks Dana for your perspective. As someone with lived experience of a parent’s addiction who now advocates for systemic changes, it has been incredibly difficult to influence policy despite knowing the risk to children.
Dana Sharp-McLean
02:28:25
I agree!

convenors. For the second question, we talked about the need for shared understanding of language and terms and the need for collaboration across organizations at all levels (almost mentorship of organizations by other organizations). We talked about having youth/families at the table for data conversations/having people with lived experience on data committees. Collaborate with larger organizations like hospitals to advocate for shared data systems.
