Updated Prayer of Invocation: PRAYER OF INVOCATIONThere is so much that is hard and devastating about our lives and our world right now, dear God. It is so tempting to push back against those realities by ignoring them, by numbing ourselves, by steeping ourselves in rage or bitterness, or by trying to control the uncontrollable. Lead us instead to acceptance: an active acknowledgement of what is, so that we might find you in our reality, and thus find freedom and peace. Amen.

PRAYER OF DEDICATIONWe offer these gifts to you, O God, with joy - not because we deny the suffering in and around us, but because even amidst that suffering we know there is still so much to celebrate. Amen.

I'll have to sing that beautiful song (or play Nick's rendition) when I walk around my neighborhood, since I am just 1/10 of a mile from Linden Street and there are lots of lindenbaumen here. Thanks Nick!

"When historians pick up their pens to write the story of the 21st century, let them say that it was your generation who laid down the heavy burdens of hate at last and that peace finally triumphed over violence, aggression and war. So I say to you, walk with the wind, brothers and sisters, and let the spirit of peace and the power of everlasting love be your guide." -- John Lewis

Thinking of suffering reminded me that there are still living survivors of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, 75 years ago today and of Hiroshima, Japan 75 years ago on the 6th, as well as of the nuclear testing that went on before and since.
