Good morning from Tampa & welcome back! Takeaway from yesterday: African American Studies must be taught or lessons incorporated in all disciplines not just in Social Studies classes and must be done throughout the school year not just during Black History Month in February. Amen?!

56:04
is there a zoom meet code? I cannot see/hear the presentation correctly in the whova app

56:22
Joy, as a museum curator/educator, do you know if most museums would be willing to do a presentation virtually? I live in a rural area that does not have many close resources such as museums.

56:25
Biology teacher here; and Dr. Ghansah... AMEN!!!

56:31
@Althoria Pickett. Good morning, first of all! You asked some great questions. Yes, the Task Force is charged with the responsibility of working with districts to help them comply with state statuate. Task Force membership is based on regional/geographic placement so in other words, there should be a dedicated Task Force member that would work with Leon District and surrounding counties.

I've been an AA advocate for many years. It's a great addition to our schools.

Yes. Me too Joan, it's amazing and it helps because I have been the sponsor of the African American Heritage Club.

Exactly. Ebony Society in Palm Coast is another example. Back to the power of school and community partnerships, the WSCC model.

01:13:17
Tell me more about your club. What level are you? I teach at an elementary school.

01:14:27
@Joan, I am in high school, but I am sure that you can do some of the activities

01:14:38
In the app when asked for an event invitation code when accessing the event, please type in this invitation code: aahdu

Re: The world is truly big enough for ALL of our students to shine. TY Dr. Precious....!Yes! How amazing the global universe would be if all would be open to believing and receiving this - those who have access to the power structures believing it and those who have been marginalized believing and receiving it! We were each created with specific gifts and talents to contribute - given one small piece of the whole. This world will always operate in a fragmented state until this is realized.

02:02:18
Yes....honest, purposeful, and loving teaching our students, specifically our AA students can be revolutionary!!!

02:02:48
Yes....@Narvette....

@ Carole - Unfortunately, it is not a simple case of "a few rotten apples" the system itself is rotten to the core. Please read Slave Patrols by Sally Hadden. The modern American police system is based on a system of racial profiling and control. It was baked in to the system from the very beginning. The whole entire SYSTEM needs to be changed.

@ not being under master teachers: Yes! When I was a young teacher, I didn't even get this... and as a student, I didn't encounter the classes of teachers who couldn't manage b/c my mom worked in the system so I was in the "best" (definition of the system) classes! Would've loved having the opportunity to be mentored. :(

I teach African American history on the college level and routinely have White, Asian and Latino students who find Black History so empowering and engaging. They are literally mad that they had never heard half the stuff I cover before.
