CASC Community Forum: Anti-racist School Counseling - Shared screen with speaker view
Several attendees have asked about the book mentioned at the beginning. The book is called “Interrupting Racism” and it is written by Alicia Oglesby (one of our panelists) and Rebecca Atkins.
@becky Thank you for that reminder. I agree! I just wanted folks to know which book it is :)
@Judy Williams- YES That’s a great resource as well! Thanks for sharing :)
Here are a few resources attendees would like to share:
George Yancy's book, Backlash is a great book for looking into white supremacy, white privilege and white innocence. Additionally, it will provoke the thought process to begin the "unpackaging" process.
Another good resource on exploring and understanding Implicit Bias is from the Kirwin Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Ohio State University http://kirwaninstitute.osu.edu/implicit-bias-training/
Yes- Recording will be on the CASC website
POC= People of Color
Something I learned recently and plan to bring to my staff and school prior to fall semester and want to share related to something mentioned about interupting racism and statements. Includes having a separate Social Vision and Statement
“Sounded like you’re trying to exclude/or leave him out, at this school we treat others with kindness”Creation of “Social Vision statement” always used at that interrupting stage.•interrupting•stop because at this school we....”social vision” statement•eventually the culture will shift from solution team interventions to culture of social visionSolution team focused on the students’ empathy showing how the perpetrators action made the target feel unsafe uncomfortable sa
