Do you think that the museum’s actions in response to our organizing efforts have helped motivate our staff to unionize?
Michelle Millar Fisher
01:19:31
What would it look like if dept heads, board members, even directors perhaps did not oppose union formation? And perhaps even welcomed it—openly? (Maybe if this scenario existed, there would be less need for a union.) Have there been senior staff or external stakeholders who have been helpful to your efforts?

Thank you Sarah and Nicole - I am energized by your presentation and your words. My name is Kris Cnossen and I am a second year student at the Winterthur/University of Delaware Art Conservation Program looking at a probable future in which I will be a contractor. Do you have any tips for a freelance or trade union-type structure for interns, fellows, and contractors?

Management and unions want 2 opposing things. We tend to view museums/cultural institutions as being exempt from the goals of traditional businesses. How can we support you?

I do want to add that during my time (9 years) at PMA of course there were issues similar to what Sarah and Nicole are eloquently speaking about. I am sure change is needed but PMA is truly a wonderful place. But in most departments there was a truly wonderful sense of family and support from senior staff for their departmental staff. Just wanted to put that out there.

i really appreciated michelle’s questions and *snaps* to sarah’s answer! what an opportunity for those with power, even perceived, to step up and support this campaign and others to come at peer institutions. it’s powerful to imagine board members coming out in support of a union while they are discussing how to make long overdue, transformative change to address systemic inequity.
