Design Thinking in the Classroom
CHOICE always come up. I’m a word nut and the original meaning of INTELLIGENCE - ETYMOLOGY - INTELLE (between) + LEGERE (TO CHOOSE}. INTELLIGENCE MEANS - TO CHOOSE BETWEEN - To MAKE A CHOICE FOR YOURSELF. -Not what someone else said. Our lives are a history of the CHOICES WE MAKE. S0 when you say CHOOSE - you are saying Intelligence - the way it originally mean.
ALSO - I’ve studied the ORAL TRADITION vs the WRITING tradition. Top studies have revealed that an ORAL PRESENTATION with some movement, voice shift etc.- People remember 8 TIMES MORE than the same READING experience of the material.
Are you familiar with the memory system called MNEMONICS - how the ancient Greeks were able to memorize thousands of words? It’s based on LOCATIONS and IMAGES. You observe some general features around you and you place an image (imago) in that location that you associate with a WORD.
JOHN GATTO taught like you do. He would close the door and ask students to talk about what they are interested in and what would you like to learn etc. RESULT - 3 TIME NY STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR.(pssst) DON’T TELL ANYONE…
