Can you give an example of a statuatory change that would need to go before GA?
All of the POL boards have statutes that spell out their licensure requirements, continuing ed requirements, etc. If someone wanted to make changes to licensure requirements, then that would have to be filed in the form of a bill with the GA.
What are LLR Committees? (or is there just one committee?)
LLR has 42 boards and commissions.
They range from medically related, like the Board of Nursing, to business related, like the Real Estate Commission.
So committee is just another name for a board or commission?
Thanks, Holly! Very helpful. So if a group wanted to adress interstate reciprocity with a specific dicsipline (i.e. speech therapists) we would address the GA, right? That would be the Medical Services Committee?
Boards and Commissions are the primary body. But within them, they may set up committees to address certain specific issues. The Board of Pharmacy, for instance, has committees to evaluate non-resident pharmacy applications. Committees are appointed by the Boards.
Yes, you would seek sponsorship of a bill to amend the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology practice act in that regard. You may also consider speaking with the association related to that profession, Their lobbyist is Heather Smith with the Southern Strategy Group. The association is the SC Speech Language Hearing Association (SCSHA).
Awesome. Thank you!!
Folks...we have a hard 9:45 stop today...so if you have question, please be sure to put into chat box. If Holly and team cannot get to them, Emily shared that they will respond via Together SC so we can get answers.
Feel free to email me anytime with questions. firstname.lastname@example.org
