Last school year....we were doing what we could to make it to the light at the end of the tunnel. The summer away from distance learning was a breath of fresh air. And now the new school year....we're in it for the long haul.

23:36
"Suited for advocacy". I love that phrase

Appreciate the advocacy from my NASA colleagues!

24:12
@Vernica - Yes! Knowing that we are likely managing a full school year from home is daunting. Even though we made the choice to keep our girl home, it’s still tough to swallow.

24:42
This article addresses the realities of women being pushed out of the workforce. It highlights the story of a tech CEO who had to shut down her company to take care of her son.https://www.thelily.com/i-had-to-choose-being-a-mother-with-no-child-care-or-summer-camps-women-are-being-edged-out-of-the-workforce/

26:05
No meetings or important deadlines

26:43
Someone isn't muted

27:08
That’s right! Our previous normal was terrible.

27:12
SO true

27:18
Normal wasn't necessarily working for everyone....so very true.

27:51
There are so many ways in which 'normal' should not return.

27:53
Wow.

28:00
"empathy and grace" -- yes! Extend that to co-workers as well!

28:06
I love that

28:32
DEI folks know that normal is boring and stalls growth and progress. We have the opportunity to write the better normal (as Jorge said last week)

28:49
8-9 am and 3-4 pm are my no meeting zones.

29:05
Yes let's build a beter normal moving forward for all of us

29:09
I truly appreciate the empathy from my supervisor. She doesn't have kids but has a pre-teen niece that helps her sister with

29:38
I agree @shavondalyngivens

29:57
Whew - yes.

29:59
That's daunting

30:01
Yessss

30:02
Hi again everyone - I am going to paste below information on someone who is studying DEI and is looking for an internship…

30:05
Jack Fitzpatrick is 19 years old. He has overcome many challenges in life due to his autism and is now a champion for diversity and inclusion. He has sat on several boards to represent many forgotten voices. Jack is currently studying Education and Inclusion at John Moores University in Liverpool and is looking for a work placement to take place between the 18th of January and the 5th of February 2021. It needs to be virtual due to Covid 19 and needs to focus on the development of a project associated with diversity and inclusion. He would need a sponsor within the company he works for and the project should be mutually beneficial to both Jack and the partner company. As this project is virtual he can consider international projects and the company can be based anywhere. If you feel you can help please let me know and I can put you in touch with Jack. Here is his linkedin profile. https://www.linkedin.com/in/jack-fitzpatrick-53851b1aa/

30:46
QUESTION: I agree that the managers have a huge responsibility throughout this. 1) how do you keep your managers from burning out?? 2) how do you best equip your managers to have these convos around mental health, flexibility, etc.

30:54
An insightful article by a mom on how employers can help right nowhttps://www.workingmother.com/erin-thomas-twitter-thread-employers-childcare-crisis?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&tp=i-1NGB-Et-QJE-15MJcF-1c-16ODZ-1c-15MEMR-l50CK95fFM-1NiHbm

ERG - Employee Resource Group

31:00
I was sent in a downward spiral, was diagnosed with acute stress reaction in Jan 2019. My son was extremely ill, my mother in law had emergency surgery and when I asked for some support from my manager saying I am extremely stressed out, I was told you are just a mom...

31:29
It made me rethink my commitment to my employer

32:45
Mother Honestly put together a crisp description of how the pandemic impacts working parents. You can find it on their Instagram page. A perfect business case/justification framework for employees or HR/DEI professionals looking to move forward on this one and make the pitch to leadership.Based on a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) study on Easing the COVID-19 Burden on Working Parents. published on May 21

32:55
That’s. lot Gurjit and that response is most unfortunate. I am sorry to hear that. Your re-evaluation is understandable.

33:36
Awareness, Advocacy, and Action is so important

34:05
This article came out fairly early in the pandemic. This is one of the best articles I have read on this topic - it says parents are being totally ground down in this failed systemFrom the NYT - In the COVID-19 Economy, You Can Have a Kid or a Job. You Can't Have Both.

34:06
Love the discussion! I have to jump off but plan to catch up on the recording.

34:21
We are using Bright Horizon's as a partner. They provide virtual tutoring, virtual sitters, etc. They partner with SitterCity as well. It has been VERY well received from our parent community dealing with many of these similar challenges

35:21
Keeping managers from burning out is a challenge. Our organization anticipated that supervisors and managers may not be comfortable sharing in the existing Networks. As a result, we surveyed First Line Supervisors to ascertain how we can support them. Our HR organization is proactively meeting with them periodically and working to respond to the survey results.

35:40
Another McAllister!

36:00
QUESTION: (great to hear your energy and insights--thanks). Curious what is the role Executive Sponsors are playing at NASA and while everyone is adjusting to a "current normal" is leadership fully engaged in "hearing" the insights on employee experience? What's making a difference brining Leaders along?

36:04

42:42
This is just amazing. Talk about filling a gap and solving a real problem.

42:45
QUESTION - Is this available across the U.S. and is it stronger in certain markets?

43:07
This is an amazing opportunity.

Hi everyone! Morgan Williams I have been trying to type this for 30 minutes while I breast feed my son. I have 13+ years of recruiting experience within professional services specifically tech & finance. I have recently broadened my resume into product development and expansion. I am also looking to connect with other individuals that are passionate about DEI. I am a black woman living in Annapolis, MD just outside of DC. https://www.linkedin.com/in/itrecruitersdc/

56:43
I would love to be a resource for Project Matriarch.
