OMG that's the reverse of our experience. We were told that we needed to collect data in order to consider Recovery Services.
kristahanson
38:46
This is such helpful information but I have to go. Is there anywhere I can access these slides or a recording later?
Maryann
38:50
Yes they should get more time not exact time that was missed
Janis White, Pres., Seattle Special Education PTSA
39:14
We will post the slides and the recording on our website
kristahanson
39:55
OK - thank you so much.
Anne Sheeran
40:06
Again, our case manager said that we have to consider the impact of recovery services on the student's school day.
Liz Aderhold
40:54
And not on the length of the school day, right?
Marina D
41:43
In the SECC decision, Recovery Service was mentioned in the division document but it was not mentioned by personnel from school / district. I asked about it the past summer. I was told that we could do something but we haven’t got any reimbursement.
Liz Aderhold
42:49
What breaks *would* schools have people available? Aren’t teachers off or doing continuing ed type stuff for themselves?
Marina D
43:07
Sorry for the typo - *decision, not “division”

If you would like to ask anonymously, you can message me of Janis and we can share your question during Q&A
Anne Sheeran
46:06
I was one that filed a complaint during the summer 2020. OSPI did have corrective actions, but gave the district latitude about what constituted 'services.'
Anne Sheeran
49:28
Just generally, do we have examples in SPS of authentic engagement and determinations on rec. services. Is OSPI aware of the level of effort of our families in addressing this.
Anne Sheeran
52:12
Thanks OSPI for not safeguarding our children's rights March 2020 - June 2020.
Anne Sheeran
01:01:57
We went through a length transition services IEP process. We asked about Recovery Services. We were told we needed to collect data.
Anne Sheeran
01:03:17
Wow, transition recovery services according to OSPI was not a topic that SPS was ready to engage with as of June 2021.
Liz Aderhold
01:05:09
A follow up to my question about breaks and teacher availability: is there an expectation for this upcoming summer to be similar to last - where they will pick only a specific timeframe, and offer a summer school option? I think it was in July only at our school.
Erika
01:08:08
my kid suffered regression and they told me the regression was because of changes in his eye sight and he didn't need recovery services. His eye doctor disagrees and his eye sight is fine so do I just complain more?
Sangeeta Pradhan
01:11:53
Can you share the slides? The presentation has valuable information. Thank you for organizing it.
Anne Sheeran
01:11:54
A bullet point here is have one clearly designated ref doc that individual schools can cue to, that is accurate, and that is aligned with OSPI guidance.
Janis White, Pres., Seattle Special Education PTSA
01:12:49
Yes we will post the sides and the video on our website
Anne Sheeran
01:13:18
We need the Board to understand how onerous this is for families, given the passivity and lack of coordinated communications that are accurate from SPS
Sangeeta Pradhan
01:14:36
Can parents request ESSER III funds fromthe district to get recovery services (math tutor) added to the IEP ?
Megan Russell
01:15:05
We didn't get any Recovery Services over the summer.
Janis White, Pres., Seattle Special Education PTSA
01:15:35
ESY Extended School Year
Liz Aderhold
01:16:33
Yes. I opted for private options over the summer due to unknowns and last minute options presented by SPS. But we paid out of pocket.
julie gunter
01:16:57
Our data from Recovery Services in July was lost.
Jana Parker, co-VP, Advocacy (She/Her)
01:17:19
So no progress sounds like Julie ;-)
Lisa
01:18:22
So, if an IEP team determines a student is eligible for after school recovery services and there is no one available to provide them, can parents ask the district to pay for private programs/tutors?
Jana Parker, co-VP, Advocacy (She/Her)
01:18:32
Just in the summer?
Anne Sheeran
01:18:48
Why isn't there a recov services czar? This is critically impt for transition students.
Jana Parker, co-VP, Advocacy (She/Her)
01:22:07
I had to log out for tech issues and I can't see any questions from when I was logged in before. Sorry
Rita Parmelee
01:30:16
Due to mental health issues I delayed recovery services until this fall because it was my understanding services will be provided. How do I retroactively show his missed time?
Anne Sheeran
01:31:46
I have to respectfully express a concern about the Citizen Complaint Route. The impacts on the District are so minimal?
Jana Parker, co-VP, Advocacy (She/Her)
01:32:51
I agree Anne, it can be such a hit or miss and OSPI has been cutting districts slack
Jana Parker, co-VP, Advocacy (She/Her)
01:33:05
Any more questions anyone?
Erika
01:33:47
what is body doubling?
Lisa
01:34:21
Hi! Follow up…if the iep team determines a student is eligible for afterSchool recovery services and no one is available to provide them what do you suggest we do.
Cherylynne Crowther
01:34:57
With an IEP team about 5 days away, and some of the pre-work done, what suggestions do you have if you cannot get a (not) regional supervisor there?
Erika
01:35:33
reach out to the counselor often
Anne Sheeran
01:43:49
I have some doubts about the mediation option having gone that route twice. Others can PM me for that info.
Ioana Santau
01:44:33
But the district might not show up at mediation
Anne Sheeran
01:47:17
What is the experience of families filing due process pro se (sorry about spelling) with attorney advising as opposed to leading?
Anne Sheeran
01:47:50
And I imagine that ALJs are incredibly lenient towards districts right now, do we have evidence to bear this out as yet?
Ioana Santau
01:50:52
Thank you so much!
Lisa
01:51:35
Thank you!!!

01:56:09

Maryann
01:57:36
I saw a statistic that almost 500,000 women left the workplace during the pandemic to meet the needs of assisting with their children's education.
