Christina Nguyen
48:22
wait so you can apply for a program in another school while being enrolled in your undergraduate university?
Karen Howell, Gwinnett Tech.
50:13
@Christina - yes, many colleges allow you to be a student at two colleges. But you should confirm with both colleges.
Chris Murphy
50:35
NP, thanks!
Christina Nguyen
51:03
thank you for answering
Karen Howell, Gwinnett Tech.

51:29
We are having difficulty with our large meeting setting. The slide deck and recording will be available on our website tomorrow.
Christina Nguyen
52:40
another question, if we enroll in a university full time, are we still able to attend a program part time? Or do you think that would be too much workload?
Karen Howell, Gwinnett Tech.
53:04
Great question. That will depend on the student and the program.
Christina Nguyen
53:24
thank you for answering
Lena
57:29
To clarify If someone do the work study, they earn money while doing school?
Christina Nguyen
57:36
Another question, if we're applying for a program, does our major in our other university have to be the same as the program? For example, lets say I'm taking a computer science major, will I still be able to attend a program that is completely unrelated like a therapist program? Or does it also depend on the program guidelines and requirements?
Amy Burke - GSMST
58:44
Yes, work study is essentially a part time job.
Lena
58:57
Also, for the Pell Grant, do we apply? Or are we already applied to it?
Amy Burke - GSMST
59:41
You apply for the Pell Grant via the FAFSA.
Faythe Kadona
01:00:14
Can you apply for the Pell Grant more than once or is it a once a lifetime grant
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:00:45
You will complete the FAFSA each year you are attending school, and you can qualify for the Pell each year.
Jordan Taylor
01:01:23
When I made my account for FAFASA they asked for 2020 tax returns, not 2021. Is that okay?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:02:02
You cannot create an account yet for a student attending school in Fall of 2023 (next fall). The FAFSA does not open until October 1st for current seniors.
Sojeong Ahn
01:02:18
So the FAFSA is only for seniors?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:03:10
The FAFSA is for students who are planning to attend school next fall, OR for current college students who will also be attending school next year. (So current seniors or current college students).
Sam Shah
01:09:34

01:12:16
Can you graduate early doing it this way?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:12:57
At some high schools, this might mean that you can graduate early. You would want to talk with your high school counselor about that possibility.
Aiyetoro & Earl Collins Sr.
01:13:34
thx
YOLONDRIA TISDELL
01:14:10
do out of state schools typically accept these credit hours?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:15:05
Many out of state schools will accept these credit hours. You would need to check with each college to make sure and to see what credits they will give you.
Aiyetoro & Earl Collins Sr.
01:16:36
Can a 10th grader do it if they came as a freshman with 3 carnegie credits?
Christina Nguyen
01:18:07
are taking minors worth the cost? Will the zell miller/hope scholarship cover the cost of minor classes?
DePriest Waddy
01:20:11
Also please check out the Gates Scholarship (Bill and Melinda Gates) www.thegatesscholarship.org

01:22:43
Every senior student and 1 parent need to create an FSA ID to log into FAFSA. You can go ahead and create that login now. https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
Sheila
01:30:24
How do you qualify for the Hope or Zell grants?
Lena
01:30:41
I saw a left handed scholarship, is that true? If it is, how do you apply and what are the benefits?
Christina Nguyen
01:31:03
what are all the different scholarship searches you recommend?
Don & Michelle Kennedy
01:31:43
can you or should you start applying for scholarships in your Jr. year?
Sojeong Ahn
01:31:43
Are AP's and dual enrollments required for all universities?
Karen Howell, Gwinnett Tech.
01:31:55
@yolandria - out of state colleges often accept credits from colleges in Georgia, but you should contact them to confirm.
Alan Ritter
01:31:56
is the money awarded from scholarships and grants required to cover tuition exclusively? can it also be used for costs of living like rent or food or even just other school supplies like textbooks?
Joanne Calabrese
01:32:45
If I deny the FASFA money the first time, does it hurt me on the next year applying to receive some money?
C D
01:33:16
Are there scholarships available for dependents of disabled veterans?
genevieve -student relations vp
01:33:16
Can you super-score your Zell Miller SAT requirement?
Karen Howell, Gwinnett Tech.
01:34:45
@Sojeong - every college can have different requirements. AP and dual enrollment options can be accepted everywhere. But contact the specific college you are interested in to confirm.
Alicia McNeal
01:34:56
what if in 2021, I received covid relief, unemployment, or took a disbursement from my 401k for hardship...these are all 1x things so my income will be overstated for the fafsa. how do I remedy that?
Lena
01:35:22
I was trying to research but I couldn't find any answers and I heard from someone that if you take more than a certain amount of SAT tests it would average out all the tests you have taken. If that is true, how SAT tests should be taken before it is averaged out?
Johnetta Hayes
01:37:37
What if my parent didn’t file 2021 taxes. I’m asking for my nephew
CMcFarthing
01:38:11
Does FAFSA base dispersements on student GPA or it is strictly based on parent's finances?
Alan Ritter
01:38:33
I believe I remember correctly I have heard that HOPE and Zell Miller only apply to in state colleges, so if someone was applying out of state are there any similar scholarships that can apply to any college in, or even out of, the US? or would it be on a state by state basis?
genevieve -student relations vp
01:39:03
is there a maximum amount of money the fasfa can get you?
Jeannie Lai
01:39:03
Are there scholarships available for twins?
Alicia McNeal
01:39:14
everyone is saying not to apply for fafsa the 1st week because it always crashes and you lose all of your information. thoughts on that? can you stop and come back to the fafsa or you have to do in one sitting?
Aiyetoro & Earl Collins Sr.
01:39:14
Does the student still need the parent information for a student loan?
Adina Olar
01:39:39
What is the income limit per year for FAFSA ?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:40:07
Jeannie Lai - probably! Do a search and see what you can find!
Adina Olar
01:40:46
Sorry I meant to say to be accepted into Fafsa is there a base income limit ?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:41:13
No, there is no base income requirement for FAFSA.
Lena
01:41:21
Is there a limit to how many scholarships you can apply to?
Amy Burke - GSMST
01:41:50
You can apply to as many as you have time to complete! Pay attention to what your college will accept and what the scholarship will cover.
Lena
01:42:24
To clarify, we first sign up and apply to colleges and then apply to scholarships?
genevieve -student relations vp
01:42:47
how can you make sure you aren't wasting time in some sense wasting your time when filling out scholarships? Some say its better to look locally instead of looking nationally since the pool is smaller.
Alicia McNeal
01:43:15
so I'm married and we file jointly..I created one fafsa id for myself and one for my student. would my husband need one too?
Johnetta Hayes
01:44:03
Will you do this session again? I know some parents that will benefit
Karen Howell, Gwinnett Tech.
01:44:06
@Lena - you can apply to a college and complete scholarships at the same time. If the scholarship app is on the college's website, then you need to be accepted to that college. But if it is a general scholarship, then the timing does not matter.
Aiyetoro & Earl Collins Sr.
01:44:23
