lola montgomery
39:28
unconscious bias affects us all, even the well-meaning, and that makes persuasive messaging essential to get support, and as yu say, hearts and minds
Marco Navarro

That responsibility for poverty or other limitations are the responsibility of the individual, and too many people think of others as 'those people' too many assumptions and one isn't always aware of what misconceptions a person has
lola montgomery
44:04
assumption that successful persons of color are successful not due to their own merits, but to affirmative action or attempts to achieve optics of diversity
Adrienne Malmberg
44:14
We have the challenge of balancing helping others and enabling people who want to abuse our services. We always strive to leave our opinions at the door and just love people where they're at.
lola montgomery
45:21
understanding strategic audiences are not monolithic
Kate Shatzkin
56:39
But isn't important that the value is a widely shared one? I worry that, sadly, equal justice under the law is not necessarily a shared value anymore.
Kate Shatzkin
59:14
Thank you; very helpful clarification.
Angela Jones
01:04:37
What about people with lived experiences? How do we share but protect them at the same time?
STORM TALIAFERROW
01:09:37
Another effective framework setting example: is pointing out the disparity in home appraisals, e.g. higher appraisals when we remove blackness (family photos etc.). It hits at shared values and is very persuasive
Dennis Campa
01:16:50
We encourage you to use the Q&A function to pose any questions for Alan. He will do his best to respond to as many of the questions as time permits.
Andrea Luquetta she/her/ella/they
01:17:30
Here's a frame we're working on right now to appeal to funders who might be interested in policy work: As a statewide asset building coalition, we advance multiple economic systems changes at once (currently health care, wages, cash with dignity, and entrepreneur support) while our members advocate for their target communities with more tailored strategies like savings programs, work training, or child care. We need both strategies because persistent poverty-creating economic forces undermine (if not hollow out) local successes.
Howard Brown
01:18:17

Jo Christine Miles

Thank you so much for your time today Alan! Would you say these same 10 strategies equally apply to corporate foundations or would you make tweaks to some of them?
Bill Gould
01:22:58
