Good to know, thanks!

By that I mean engineers primarily, traffic engineers planners

Could someone also speak to the civil rights aspect of "jaywalking" enforcement? Right now there is a countervailing push by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to grant legal immunity to drivers who hit people present in the street if the driver claims the person "blocked" traffic. ALEC's bill in states like Florida could affect all pedestrians, not just the long history of civil rights protests in the streets.

Mr. Hope is right, midblock crossing means there are only two directions to concentrate on. In Australia Greg Vann planner and ex mayor of Adelaide have started a national campaign "gaming" on their podcast, trying to "arrest" jaywalking by trying to get tickets to show how silly jaywalking bylaw is.

Here is a great video about the history of Jaywalking “Adam Ruins Everything - Why Jaywalking Is a Crime” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AFn7MiJz_s&ab_channel=truTV

As long as people are going to and from cars that are parked on the street, it seems like Jaywalking is completely acceptable in my community, but if someone is just walking then it is a violation. Do other people observe this double standard in their community?

53:09
Jorge- that’s a great video - I recommend too!

Deborah - that was a great event =)

Michael’s final point really really hit the nail on the head

MUTCD: Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, a de facto national standard used by most state and local transportation departments.

I think jaywalking is very often done as the safest option, but it’s worth noting that it’s often a non-safe option taken because it’s either by far the most sensible/convenient option OR literally the only one.

01:19:54
I do think it’s so helpful that Virginia has done this and it will be interesting to see data from it as time goes on

01:31:01
👍👍

01:34:25
As Angie points out, part of restorative justice should be to clear people's records and refund fines and fees for jaywalking.

We’ve had 75+ attendees on this panel discussion, definitely part of a growing movement!

01:45:01
This is the most important talk I have heard this year. An honour to listen to. Thank you for your co-ordinated time treasure and talent working towards equity and dissolution of this regulation.
