Of these USDA local food and healthy food access programs: Are you able to access these programs? How can they be improved in terms of priorities, eligibility, funding, cost-share, etc?Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion ProgramValue Added Producer Grant ProgramRegional Food Systems Partnership ProgramGus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive ProgramFarmers Market Nutrition Programs (WIC, Seniors)Office of Urban AgricultureAs a farmer who sells into local and regional markets (or an organization who serves local farmers), what processing, infrastructure, or market-related barriers do you face? What kinds of changes in policy would help better meet your needs?

Continued exemption for off-label drug use in small ruminantsExpansion of veterinary schools and incentive for large-animal practiceA beef, lamb, goat, and pork exemption like poultry has. Poultry only has to be USDA inspected to be sold across state lines, whereas all other proteins have to be USDA inspected for in-state sales. With USDA facilities booked 2 years in advance, it's crippling livestock producers.
Ben Weinberg (he/him)
01:08:25
Here in Hawai’i, livestock often has to be shipped to the continent in order to be processed at USDA facilities. Interesting to see that this issue isn’t specific to us.

01:08:38
Have you used any of these conservation and soil health programs? What do you think would strengthen them (For example more funding, technical assistance, greater program accessibility?)CSPEQIPACEPRCPPCRPState ProgramDo you use any practices on your farm to intentionally reduce your greenhouse gas emissions / sequester carbon? What are they?
Dee (they/them)
01:10:41
I’ve benefitted from the EQIP program at farms I’ve worked at.

Discussion Questions:If you use crop insurance, how does it shape your on-farm decisions? If you do not use crop insurance, tell us why. What barriers have you found to obtaining crop insurance? How do you approach risk management and build operational resilience instead?
Dee (they/them)
01:10:51
EQIP funded a high tunnel

01:11:05
Janna, does the farm bill include livestock management?
Dee (they/them)
01:11:12
Cute love the Chai tunnel!
Kira Rib
01:11:27
I would love to know if farms who produce “specialty crops” have any difficulty accessing crop insurance and risk management programs

01:16:14
on a similar note, i'm curious how much the Big Ag industry influences the programs within the farm bill in terms of lobbying and/or pushing for subsidies that promote/provide pesticides, chemical inputs, monocrops, etc.
Madeline
01:18:32
The farm bill also stipulates how often livestock under transport must be watered, how many miles before they rest, etc.

I dropped in a bit late..was curious if there was discussion on how to best impact/have voices heard in the farm bill
Emma (She/Her) & Dale (He/Him)
01:27:04
Topics: Increasing on-farm soil carbon sequestration. Distribution of local food. Quantifying soil health benefits.
