Brian asked an interesting question: if everyone is leader, who will be followers? Can we explore the topic further for the benefit of those who are individuals in follower roles?

51:20
As Dad, as a husband, as a coach, as a mentor, my role in my job I am a leader. However, I am also a follower or learner in each of these areas.

53:09
I had a similar thought. You could be in an individual contributor role, but you still be a leader amongst your peer group at similar levels. And a follower of your manager!

54:31
You can also lead your manager. Leadership is influence. Can you influence your manager?

55:40
Oh, good point, Kenneth. Yes, I think it's possible to influence your manager ... if your manager is receptive to input. It's easier if you have a foundational of trust

01:00:23
Leaders need leadership and management skills and managers needs management skills and leadership

01:01:10
Fully agree with Jingrong.

01:07:03
Let’s follow up the topic from another angle: ifone is very competent technically and reliable for getting things down or delivering tasks, but who is shy from speaking up or influencing others. How do we describe this individual in the context of leadership?

01:10:54
It's too soft

01:10:56
not ok

01:11:07
Did she select her mic as the audio device instead of her laptop audio?

01:12:12
Recommend you all to adjust your volume to hear the presentation - thank you

01:12:25
Why we cannot switch to the speaker full screen?

01:13:07
It’s ok now

01:14:45
Not all leaders are great communicators. Some truly exceptional scientists prefer to do the science and communicat through their written papers and not necessarily through giving talks or videos. Their reach may not be as large, but they do lead in their technical areas often pushing the boundaries forward, the impact is nevertheless significant, even if their reach may not be optimal.

01:17:36
resonance is so important in vocal quality in speech to engage the listener

01:21:10

01:23:14
So beautiful! Thank you Margaret for playing and sharing music!

01:24:07
I'd love to know the book that Margaret wrote about Bach

01:25:50
thank you very much Margaret! Its really excellent!

01:30:54
Great music, and great metaphor. 88 keys are different types of personalities in your team, each unique. It is up to leader how to manage them to a music. Also interesting that in a tone, like C major etc, some keys will play a major role and some will not be used or out of tone. Also just like in a big team.

01:37:51
I have a question - Everyone is different and come with different strengths and weakness. if someone is not being able to play all "keys" well, is s/he still able to become a good leader?

01:39:42
To continue your analogy, Brian, there are many beautiful compositions that only use some of the keys. So I don't think we need to be good at everything to be a good leader. NO ONE is good at everything.

01:39:46
I hope the recording of this session will be made available as I can already think of many friends who will benefit from this session!

01:40:48
Brian, great point! I thinkpart of the role of a leader…to play to everyone’s strength. I’d be happy to tell a story. I think it’s important to see what different team members bring and assemble a holistic team culture/dynamics where we can foster and bring out everyone’s strength. Power of the collective!

01:45:38
Should we send these chat messages to the "All Panelists and Attendees" group instead of the "All panelists" group? It's really quiet on the main chat, and it might help with audience engagement to include everyone else...

01:46:32
To @Ravi and ALL: The recording for the main sessions including this one will be made available for all the registered participants only after the event.

01:47:07
Ravi, thanks for your interest. Your feedback is well appreciated. We will make the recording available on our website for members to view after the event.

Read through the messages - agreeing with @Nicole, post your thoughts with the audience as well

02:15:47
Thanks, Janice! That's a great point - the leaders make you "greater than" or "less than", and what do we would like to be.

02:20:28
“Be the truly changing agent!” So powerful!

02:29:57
missing a context for where to sit

02:35:16
Janice, your story about "where to sit" resonated with me, as I had a similar experience early in my career. I was grateful when my manager gave me a little wave so I knew it was okay to move from the chairs on the outside edge of the room to actually sit at the table. Ever since, I've made an effort to make eye contact and a little head bob with my colleagues, especially the junior ones, so they too know that they earned that seat at the table.

02:37:06
I have found thate Asian women are judged more harshly. I've had companies contact me to coach a high potential Asian woman who is too aggressive or talks too much. Not once been contacted to coach a man like that.

02:40:50
Lauren, I hope you can share your experience with that particular case or similar cases more, if there is opportunity

02:43:02
Thank you so much, Janie, Wah, and Lawrence!!!

02:43:09
Agree with Lawrence on that point - the marketing material is great!
