What exactly does this group recommend to improve the public school system?

48:15
I have been reading "Kochland" and I was struck by Charles Koch's comment that he wanted to eliminate compulsory education. He heads a group of 600 wealthy business owners. What is your reaction to this stance?

57:48
Please be specific. What kind of policies?

01:03:06

01:04:04
How do we fight the oppositions access to huge amounts of money and the influence it buys? The political influence, even in our own party? Your organization has 7million members. How do we recruit like that?

01:04:18
Can you talk about ownership and control when it comes to Charter Management Organizations?

01:04:36
Oops - (cat jumped on keyboard) Yes, Devos came to Greeley twice. I see this as a thinly veiled effort to bring back manufacturing with low wage workers

01:07:12
Since you won’t give any specifics, please tell me where on the AROS website I can find the answers to my questions.

01:07:48
What proof do you offer that public schools outperform charter schools?

01:07:50
And now some of the public middle schools are adopting Summit Curriculum (Zuckerberg's philanthropic effort) I see this as degrading the profession of teaching by providing a canned curriculum that can be taught by "technicians". I see this as a deliberate "dumbing down" in public schools

01:09:11
what do you believe are the biggest threats to public education?

01:09:26
Manuel has a question

01:09:29
A4PEP sends out calls to action to those on our email list, when there are things you can do

01:09:33
We need teacher colleges to attract a diverse population and teach them the skills necessary to address the needs of a diverse student population.

01:09:43
I just want to know where to find those on the website.

01:10:36

01:10:38
As Manuel is saying, we urge you not to support the LEAP initiative.

01:11:13
Also do not support initiative 31 which will reduce property taxes and take away millions from public education

01:11:30
Can you please explain more about how we can fight the information war that has developed around CRT in our district board rooms and seems to be based on lies, but is believed by many people who do not understand that and often don’t want to?

01:11:30
Thanks for that, Evie. LEAP is an ill-conceived voucher program that is likely unconstitutional.

01:11:34
Please work to find public school advocates to run for local school boards.

01:13:06
What is your opinion of the full-service Community School model as a vision for the future of education?

01:15:19
A starting point for becoming an empowered, intelligent activist: https://dianeravitch.com/what-you-can-do/

01:15:20
What is your opinion on using social to drive the discussion and educate the general public?

01:16:14
As for organizing, we need to establish district level groups - with a parent. teacher, student, and community representatives - that communicate back to the A4PEP board about essential issues in their community

01:18:38
One good way for parents to get good information is to join PTA

01:19:19
As well as access to internet (to go along with access to tech). As a person who teaches in a a high poverty demographics school, the majority of my students could not access the internet at home. My colleagues and I are super frustrated with the READ ACT. We are spending more time testing and progress monitoring than actually working with students. The majority of my students are new to the country and do have skills, but they feel like failures because they are not proficient in English

01:20:18
A4PEP has a Facebook page and a web site. Please refer people to us - our website in particular has a wealth of information. WWW.A4PEP.org

01:20:56
And feel free to forward the emails you get from us to others who you think would be interested

01:21:14
Yes Susie! Again, mandated statewide testing is driving so much of the assaults against public education
