Sheldon Shaeffer
01:01:07
More and more actors in education prefer a wider definition of :"inclusive education" to promote the removal of all barriers to education, including gender, wealth, location, ethnic/linguistic status, migrant/refugee status, et al -- while at the same time realising that achieving inclusion related to disabilities is the most difficult challenge of all. This implies the importance of using the term "disability-inclusive education" which sharpens the focus of our efforts on this particularly difficult challenge.

What are some of the approaches do you apply to engage parents/families of children with disabilities especially in hard to reach communities.
Margaret (Peggy) Dubeck
01:19:20
@Shezleen and @Erin I know that you said that is will be an overview. But in case you could describe the inside of the modules developed to consider adults with low-literacy skills. Does it have a lot of images? Graphics? Or is there text that corresponds to images? Something else? Congratulations! The modules sound fantastic. Demand from parents for more modules is a great testament.
Margaret (Peggy) Dubeck
01:20:30
Followup to what I just wrote. Based on what Erin is saying, I have the impression that the modules are for the facilitator and the families don’t use the modules.
Jennifer Rigg, GCE-US (she/her)
01:22:05
This is really helpful! All, do you have any ideas/evidence from your work that might help Concern Worldwide overcome these challenges raised on this slide?
Anne Sellers
01:22:21
Thanks for sharing about this program, very interesting! I am wondering - given the long duration of your work in this area (20 cycles completed), have you been able to go back and evaluate how well caregivers continue to practice these behaviors (and for how long) after finishing the 10-week program? And how this might have varied based on family / caregiver / child characteristics?
Margaret (Peggy) Dubeck
01:22:29
@Erin, thank you for answering the question.
Sokhim Ou, Aide et Action International Cambodia
01:25:32
How does your program keep the caregivers' motivations up to expectation for engaging them to support their children with disabilities at home if that ever happens?

With SDG4 not being among the selected SDGs for this HLPF, what are the advocacy opportunities for education? Just the links of other SDGs like SDG 3 to Education, or more?
Erin Wall
01:38:28
Hi Sokhim, thanks very much for your question. The program is designed with caregivers' motivation in mind. We keep the activities and strategies very simple and accessible so they are not overwhelming to caregivers, including those of children with disabilities. We really emphasize that even five minutes a day can make a big difference for children, and we provide activities in the WhatsApp groups that caregivers can try out to see what works for them. We also provide support for school enrolment, including inclusive education in Turkish public schools and special education centers, and we find that providing referrals and other resources for caregivers of children with disabilities also helps maintain motivation.

01:42:15
Hi Anne - this is something we are very interested in but have yet to conduct an impact evaluation beyond our annual program evals (of course COVID played a role in this as well)--we are looking at the possibility of doing this over the next year or so. For now, we conduct regular focus group discussions with caregivers and we have a short pre-/post-test to measure the change in knowledge and the extent to which caregivers are providing a positive home learning environment. We do keep in contact with the families and track school enrolment and retention, which allows us to keep tabs on and evaluate one aspect of the program's success in the Turkey context.
