It is fantastic that there is the opportunity to give feedback and ideas. The one thing that is missing across the UK is the bigger picture of Asset mapping, not just for those managing funds, making key decisions etc, but also for people within communities who are seeking support, seeking opportunities to volunteer, seeking to connect with others etc. What are your thoughts about Community Mapping receiving funding. We are an organisation that has set up the UK's first network of connected community maps. Do you think this would be something that could be funded through the Dormant Assets fund? We have been named on UK's Digital Leaders 100 list for potential Social Impact.

After the consultation closes - what are the next steps in terms collating responses, sharing and the secondary legislation piece.

Do you have to be an established social entrepreneur to comment in the consultation?

Hi All, Jason from Crowdfunder here. A great use for Dormant Assets would be the creation of a Community Asset Buyout Fund - a fund which communities can draw on to buy local assets (sports facilities, pubs, shops, etc) which are at risk of being lost. The fund would be used to buy the asset, providing there is a clear plan for the community to buy out this investment over a set number of years. I know there is some overlap with Community Wealth Funds here, but it is a bit different. I'd be interested to get Taryn's thoughts on this.

in order to unite different ethnic backgrounds who live in the same society to break the circle of misunderstanding and confusion by the people who live in the same community but with different ethnic backgrounds we would like the funding to reach our goal. How can we get the funding? Kasozi mukasa and Claire Nansamba. African cultural voluntary organisation. mobile:07931828658.

Many SE tackle preventing future issues … like making ppl healthy to avoid future use of the NHS by social prescription or food education… could some of this funding be pointed towards that type of program.
Kate Stewart - We Make Places CIC
51:53
totally agree @ricky perrin - social prescribing is great, but generally its hard for the providers (often SEs) to access payment for it so need to fund their activities elsewhere. Ideally the social prescribers would have a funding pot with which to commission

Jason: It does sound very aligned with a community wealth fund proposal – I know there are many examples of this with existing CWF-style projects such as Big Local. I would recommend responding through that part of the consultation and then have a think about the question that seeks your views on how to define community wealth funds, where you may want to suggest more of a focus on asset ownership

Its great to look at themes (gaps in government support) of support - could there be broader support to strengthen community groups through impact/thought leadership - proving that their practice/ToC works?

Safe spaces is such an important thing in our community that is needed but is so hard to come by and then we are at the merci of the local authority to lease the building at commercial value and pricing VCSE out of the picture as the utilities alone in the current climate makes it impossible. Nearly all the VCSE lease or hire from the local authority. There needs to be either subsidies other than rate relief for VCSE with buildings or there must be pressure on local authorities to treat our sector differently to commercial/ profit driven. I currently apply for grants from the council to pay the council! Seems totally wrong.
