We missed deadline to propose a VOLUNTARY agreement for reduction in Colorado River use. (All the states except Calif made a proposal, because they are second in line to California and want THEIR interests elevated.) Now the fed govt will decide on a mandatory reduction.

Guess what. The newly approved NC MOU requires 30 day notice of a rate case. No notice has been given. How can the proposal for rate increase go to the Board "in March"????

Two mitigation os power: (1) "Hedging" to get stable future prices, (2) As long as we still burn coal in Utah, that's not gas generation. (3) All the new solar and wind power that DWP has been adding. Also have hydropower and nuclear from Palo Verde. So, in combination, natural gas is not all of the power generation fuel cost.

DWP does not buy its gas from So Cal Gas. It buys on the open market through hedging contracts and uses SoCalGas facilities for transmission.

So Cal buys their gas on the open market and they state that is the reason for the current increase and statement shock.

Put another way will we see a rate payer (consumers) increase in April and in July?

The last multi-year rate case contained a boatload of "adjustment factors" that automatically increase cost per unit based on cost of power generation or water purchase. Result is that the cost per unit goes up even though there is no increase in the BASE RATE.

WE need to contact state reps as individuals. I have zero faith that the city is on top of this. Key is to get permission for "advisory bodies that receive less than $100,000 annually in public funds" be exempted from Brown Act requirements for a physically accessible public place for meeting so that they can be held virtually at the option of the local body.

Kay, that is in the ordinance (The Plan for Neighborhood Councils). It is an ancient minimum number of meetings.

While were amending the Brown Act, let's do it correctly.

Let's all be practical, the "hybrid meetings" that DONE (and Mr. Nadel) has spent all this time investigating have NEVER been a solution for our Brown Act problems.

We should just be able to hold virtual and/or in person meetings. This is going to take time to roll out and get people comfortable being in public. Anywhere we go we can get a cold or flu or something. We’ve been held back from all that for a long time. Many fears have been projected out and about. All folks have their own limits and choices. On top of all this are the security issues and all the work that it takes to set up an NC meeting. Leave it to the NC to choose. Have assistance with the tools and stop the road blocks. Let’s get past the ADA things. We met before. I think the ADA is great to check — and having lived my life with disabled family members there is just not going to be every place where a disabled person can be comfortable.

He was never a Budget Advocate and he has been corrected on this assertion in public record at a BONC meeting recently.

To clarify statements made, the Budget Advocates's problems with the DONE GM started because of complaints from Josh and re the fraud charges, he actually contacted Gascon to file RICO charges. All of this was because he lost the election to become a Budget Advocate.

The mayor appointed Larry Frank. It appeared to be a good appointment, but withdrew his name from consideration.

And regarding the Tribunes meeting, Josh keeps giving updates on them meeting at BONC, but no one I know has received an agenda since last March.

Transparency is good.

We were advised the alliance for the West Area, WRAC, was NOT informed about the appointment of their Commissioner.

IMHO the appointments have been secretive and often extended as favors by the area’s Councilmember. The NCs have been held back by not having the opportunity to weigh in. Start now. Speak up. There are many things flying by where the voices of our communities need to be respected and listened to. City Councilpersons have staff and $ and pay to play favors and groups. NCs are very limited in staff (not any really) and $ ($32K year).

No, that is not what I am saying. I look up the people that attend these meetings and do my own investigation since this information is not readily available.

Honestly, I don't think we're going to get a deluge of candidates. I think people are burned out. From what I've seen the NC elections aren't getting a ton of candidates either.

We could carry on as planned and hold the election on March 4 for one candidate for one position.....and then fill the other positions by appointment....

Jennifer is right about the BIGGER issue we have with civic participation. There are not enough people volunteering. The efforts to have "DEI" appointments to diversify the team is well meaning, but when there are fewer and fewer people willing to commit their time, it can also result in LESS time spent by people who are able and willing to do the work. Result would not be a more functional organization.

I have a slightly outdated list of all NC board members as posted in the Empower LA website. I wrote a script that scrapes them.

I can send you the list I pulled, but the script isn't really production quality and could possibly accidentally cause a DOS attack if not run with care. Also it's a shell script, so you'd need the know-how to run it.
