Critical consciousness describes students’ ability to analyze the sociopolitical world around them to understand power, privilege, and inequity in society, and to leverage that awareness to create a more just world.• Though students across the country participated in the discourse and demonstrations over the past year, very little data exists to understand students’ attitudes toward the sociopolitical conditions within the U.S.One way to measure critical consciousness is to assess students’ attitudes toward egalitarianism…which is the belief that people should be treated equally… as well as their perceptions of inequality within society today.
