My Smart Garden - Vertical Garden Walls - Shared screen with speaker view
Who can see your viewing activity?
Hi everyone. If you have any questions feel free to add them to the chat and we can try to have Scott answer them as we go.
Hi Warwick - I may not be able stay for the full session - will the slides and recording be shared afterwards?
One of my sons, made my potting bench from pallets
Is there a site with Australian regulations we can get that info from?
for the pallets
some great ideas in those pics!
My Smart Garden
Welcome to the Vertical Garden Walls, this session is being recorded please switch off your camera and mic when you enter.
the bags in between the pallets is a great idea
I saw a whole front fence built from pallets with succulents along each line - looked GREAT! In Northcote Melbourne
Sounds great Adrianne
lol @ no one will ever want to come over
When putting soil in, is it worthwhile putting particular soil? Or adding water holding gel (or similar)? Or is that dependent on what you're going to plant?
would you mix in some coconut coir to the soil for moisture retention? How do you add organic matter to the pallet garden??
Will a PVC pipe with holes in it work also??
Will coco coir do the same thing??
good to know
Im interested in growing some natives vertically so soil type recommendation would be appreciated :)
can you plant directly into cow manure? I have a lot given to me and it is like dirt now
do you recommend to change the plants often in the pallets - so that the soil is well used? I am planting coriander in small pots now and they tend to flower very quickly the second time around.
true lost sock law that one!
How to harvest worm castings and rejuvenating a worm farm where I have never harvested castings over 2 plus years?
is it a good idea to mulch our pallet garden, what would be ideal? pea straw or sugar cane or really fine
Would this be considered nutritionally dense enough for tomatoes or citrus tees?
oh yeah can you put worms in the pallett wall if it's deep or is it too hot?
I wanted some native ginger in it!! :)
And for the native wildlife
So am I to understand that that bottle is filled with diluted compost?
there is a big sharing of coffee grounds from cafes. Do you need to mix this carefully into garden ?
Sorry, rather than referring to the pallet, I was wondering how nutritionally dense the compost etc teas are. (Planting tomatoes in the pallets though does sound attractive!)
I recycle my soil by putting them on a old cooler adding some compost filling, blood and bone, cow manure or new potting mix. Has been successful so far but it this good? I also use styro foam boxes as pots for my vegeis. I this a good practice?
how can I know how much water needs the pots from my wall garden?
the birds steal my sugarcane mulch :(
and it will stink :)
Will we get a recording of this?
That's great; thanks!
Is packaged chick poo as bad as packaged cow poo?
Thank you question answered.
Comfrey leaves make a good tea, as do weeds
Have you considered stand up comedy?
Im laughing at GrangeWormitage :)
My Smart Garden

My Smart Garden
more for the rest of us😹
What soil is best for dragon fruit? I was given some and have it in succulent soil because it was given to me at a succulent swap
I'm a bit off subject but is horse manure carbon or nitrogen for the compost pile?
My parents have alpacas and just got manure elsewhere. Can they just use the alpaca poo
Pasture grazing horses - manure you get soooo many weeds.
Would Frangipani work in a vertical ?
Thank you. Does the soil need to be free draining?
I don't think we saw final slide?
Are the alternatives to pallets for a vertical garden?
Dragon Fruit is one of my favourite fruits, so tried to grow them for 3+ years in ground and also in large pots in my sunniest part of garden. I live in Carrum Downs near Frankston and climate just doesn't seem right, whereas a son lives in Altona and have often seen people growing. Is there that much of a difference in the climate? Yet I have a great succulent garden!
Is there reason to be concerned about the plastics degrading in the sun and leeching contaminants into the soil/veg?
are the PVC pipes filled with soil??
Could you say again how to make tumbler bin from drum. Thanks
