With Approval voting, the strategic thing is to approve only your top choice. Approving more candidates makes it less likely to elect your top choice. When voters discover this they will approve only one candidate and Approval voting will gradually become the same as the current system.

Erosion of faith in elections is not a TINY thing; it's the thing that many hope will get progressives to give up on the process altogether.

Powerful right-wing forces are DELIBERATELY UNDERMINING democracy in order to gain more power over our nation. Democracy empowers ordinary people, so government can protect us from bullies, corrupt businesses, etc. Without democracy, we lose accountable government. That would let bullies -- including racists, violent gun owners, etc. -- to dominate our society.

Closed Primary Elections block up to 70% of eligible voters from voting. Especially in Red states. It is why they are Red.

I agree with Ken's information and insights. We need a grassroots movement to strengthen real democratic values -- "people power" -- instead of the problems Ken identified.

ANother aspect of Ken's comment, is the Supreme Court was nominated by the President (not directly elected) with advice and consent of the Senate (State legislatures)
