George Floyd was 'one of so many'! Let's not also not forget them all, including Brianna Taylor.
Veronica Bitting
41:42
...Let's also NOT forget Brianna Taylor...
Rebecca Burmester
42:21
So this is a white woman saying that unfortunately still have acquaintance with whites who cannot/will not connect the dots of history to get to now. And our state has chosen not to teach the reality of systemic racism
Veronica Bitting
42:38
WE MUST ADDRESS Institutional, Structural & Systemic Racism!!!
Antionette Kerr she/her
43:12
Language is important. George Floyd wasn't a "situation." It's murder and an epidemic. Just trying to get media straight.
Angela Jeannet
43:13
We must revise the entire law system
Rebecca Burmester
47:20
Would both of you talk about bail?
Veronica Bitting
51:39
A little off the subject: Workplace Violence isn't always physical. It is actually not even recognized as criminal, especially discriminatory treatment of Black women in employment practices. I MUST incorporate this during 'crucial conversations'. PLEASE check out the websites of MOST North Carolina Philanthropic organizations and nonprofits. If a livable wage is provided, the leadership and paid staff looks like those other than African American Men & Women. PLEASE 'check yourselves'!
Asia Lindsay

My sister has asthma and she is at NCCIW where their covid practices are horrible

EMANCIPATE NC is also engaging, training, preparing grassroots citizens of various counties to 'empower themselves and communities' to increase police accountability via NC Justice League.

56:44
There must be an end to qualified immunity for police officers, rights above the constitution in regards to CBA that signed off by local & state government must end, and those states that have an election process in regards to prosecutors must end the practice of the CBA donating campaign funds to them. If not we will continue to fight a losing battle in many situations.
Veronica Bitting
57:09
EXACTLY James Walker!!!
Rebecca Burmester

Can you talk about NC Senate Bill 168 that passed with broad approval. This was passed at 2:30 am on Saturday, June 27th by the NC General Assembly House and Senate, and was sneakily done in the cover of night with only one vote against the bill. The section that is of concern was not in the original concept of the bill, and a majority of the bill pertained to grants. This section 2.5 establishes that the records of any person, including those who die while in the custody of law enforcement, will be confidential and not available for public view without familial authorization.
Antionette Kerr she/her
01:02:53
How did this almost slide through. Is it coming back?

Thank you for this conversation. Good program--we have to do the work Dawn recommended. News and Observer had a story about a six year old being arrested for picking a tulip from a neighbor's yard. Stupid waste of court time.
David VandeVusse
