Happy Hospital Chaplain Week to all the pastoral care folks! We are lucky to share this week with you!!! Thanks for all you do for both our patients and our staff!!!!

42:28
Happy Respiratory Care Week, everybody! Thanks, Glenn for organizing this important topic.

45:13
Healthcare workers tend to be immersed in their work and bury their feelings and thoughts for the perceived greater good.

49:06
loss of empathy

49:34
agreed

52:29
Devastating

52:52
Highly discouraging

54:10
The response by the Gov of Fl was a major factor in causing anger and fatique

54:29
It's hard to see what it is doing to students as well. They are not even fully in the profession yet.

54:51
I like making food or buying food/candy for my coworkers at work. It’s an easy way to let them know I care. 🙏

55:14
We work hard to prepare ours for the environment they will be in prior to clinicals

55:32
Ice Cream Fridays..

58:02
My outlet is training service dogs for others with stress related maladies (primarily PTSD).

58:18
I like to go to the beach and just listen to the wind and the waves.

59:03
Yes I think we all are

01:00:45
Dealing with those who refuse to acknowledge COVID, etc. is exhausting. It is really hard to overcome confirmed bias

01:01:16
Agreed Shawn

01:02:33
My cousin believes the healthcare industry is designed to keep people sick, and he does not believe when I tell him that I literally see people die from CoVID who were previously healthy. It’s difficult to maintain a relationship with him as my cousin when I know that his views contradict what I do for a living…

01:03:04
I think most of us do not have the spare energy to fight that battle and the one at work

01:05:58
The bombardment by misleading or patently false information through media and targeted "news" outlets really causes so much dissention.

01:07:52
The hard part is when they are on the verge of intubation and then they ask for clemency and you to save them. It is heartbreaking

01:13:29
ok

01:13:57
Happy Pastoral Care week

01:14:28
Happy Respiratory Care Week 2021

01:17:34
Does it seem that vaccine hesitancy is across all vaccines (COVID, FLU, Measles, Polio)?

01:17:56
We shouldn't be shocked that RTs have varied opinions about vaccinations- we probably all know at least one RT that smokes!

01:19:50
I think vaccine hesitancy is one thing but I know RTs who have all their vaccines including flu but with COVID vaccines somehow don’t believe or won’t get vaccinated

01:33:48
Are you seeing more resources becoming available for stress related mental issues?

01:37:25
My colleagues have said that they haven’t been able to find quality support through employee assistance programs. My friend who is a psychotherapist has mentioned that it’s difficult for people to get appointments because with the pandemic so many people started booking therapy appointments.

01:40:31
Our simulation center is opening up mental health programs (one online and one through canine therapy) to front line healthcare workers based on the science behind treating veterans with stress related mental issues

01:42:07
I walked away from the clinical environment and into the education environment and this was my first targeted set of program offerings based on my own and my colleagues experiences

01:43:18
Do you have any suggestions for us educators to do when educating the students who are getting ready to go into the field/clinical experiences?

01:47:05
Here are some well-being tools from Duke: https://www.hsq.dukehealth.org/tools/

01:48:19
Transparency about the benefits and challenges are important for students.

01:49:14
We try to make sure it is part of the pedagogy of the program. Also, that recognizing mental health needs is part of the educational experience.

01:54:42
We have our students go through Mental Health First Aide training as part of our curriculum. We also try to be as supportive to them as we can and make sure they know we are here for them. We try to have positive constructive instructors as part of the program as well.

01:57:42
Maybe we can have some topics that deal with this for the students at our yearly sunshine seminar.

01:57:53
GO NOLES!!!

01:58:07
Go Knights!!!!!

01:58:41
Yes my son is a Knight! I did undergrad at Rutgers and MS at Purdue.

01:59:12
Adulting is hard, in general.

02:00:22
We need to incorporate gratefulness in our post Covid life. Kindness, helpfulness should be part of our everyday routine.

02:00:36
Doing for others is a natural extension of the healthcare worker's being

02:01:37
Extend your empathy, those who are angriest or saddest need that positive energy

02:05:11
Can you post some of the resources in the chat or on the FSRC webpage that are available to healthcare workers/ RTs

02:06:16
World tour

02:07:15
Taking care of ourselves is very important, so we can be there for others.

02:07:28
yes!

02:08:24
stay connected, share your experience, a team holds a lot more weight than an individual

02:09:38
worst patients ever

02:12:52
Stop punishing the over performers and stop rewarding the under performers.

02:15:01
You need a workday routine

02:15:20
Especially with nights, blackout curtains anyone

02:16:48
This was great, thank you to the FSRC for having this available to us! Thank you to the panelists for you time.

02:17:51
You are welcome! Thank you!!!

02:18:00

02:18:18
Thank you to everyone. Respiratory Therapist have been our champion warriors during the horrific pandemic.

As a student, this has been very insightful, thank you all.

02:19:52

02:19:59
This was so refreshing and helpful to advocate mindfulness and caring to help us cope

02:20:15

02:20:37
