i work in e.30 St. Shelter. i have for 6 years. please do not disparage our DHS services and staff. NYS determines that any one in need of shelter shall receive it. noah

DHS often tells hospitals to send folks to supportive housing -- but it takes months to a year to get them to the housing.

It's also very difficult to arrange supportive housing for people at Rikers in such a way that it's available upon release - judges want to know housing is in place before relase, and housing providers (understandably) want to know that a bed is going to be filled - an impossible cycle for many

So how do we change the narrative -- less jails and more supportive housing. More treatment facilities so that it does not take a month to see a therapist

I think we make the case that it saves a ton of money.

We demand it in budgets
