I love the look of the "mixed up" garden you showed. How to pick the plants and order so not overcrowded and heights work, especially on a sloped somewhat sloped area?

Regarding new tree balls is it a good idea to soak the ball before planting? Also you don't want the tree to be straight up like a telephone pole, better to have a bit of a flare so that you don't get root strangulation.

Re: knockout roses... we moved from Texas, where these were developed. We had many, but after a few years, they mutated and how lots of thorns... some kind of virus? do you see that here?
