Those results mirror what we saw in the #SchoolAfterCOVID survey of 4,500+ families this past spring in terms of who feels comfortable going back vs. not. https://gopublicschoolsoakland.org/2020/07/4500-oakland-parents-have-spoken-about-plans-for-the-fall/

Top three items on the ballot:1. Prop. 15 - Schools & Communities First (Prop. 13 corp real estate split roll tax reform)2. Measure Y - $735 Million local school bond (of $3 billion need)3. School board races4. Measure QQ - grants 17yos the ability to vote in their local school board races
Jessica Eastman Stewart
46:25
Measure QQ - yes! The research is clear that this is a good investment in voting as a habit.

What are we seeing in terms of enrollment? I know anecdotally that some families have opted out of the virtual learning and are doing different things for schooling this year. Is that a significant #? What might that mean for SY20-21?

Ms. Howard, best teacher in Oakland! Public Ed Fund Teacher of the Year too :)

Teachers definitely didn't sign up for this kind of teaching. Take a minute right now to appreciate a teacher in your life. Send a text or an email. Or a gift card.

If you aren't sure about supporting Measure Y because you're worried about the money being spent appropriately, we discussed why we feel comfortable about that given new accountability measures in place in this video: https://www.facebook.com/113607505498/videos/3343365465719799

@JamesHarris: YES!!! We need better wifi

01:01:17
Citywide WiFi is dependent on a robust and comprehensive fiber based network throughout the city. I understand that we have a start on that via the rapid bus routes that were recently built.

I’m a parent of OUSD middle schoolers and am seeing my kids doing “less is more” and really appreciating the depth my kids are getting. I see a lot of promise from focus on depth over breadth. We are also starting to doing more work-based learning more equitably because it’s virtual and we don’t rely on bus and other expensive transportation.

To close - big news: Jerry Brown has weighed in on our local school board races. First and only time he's getting involved in local elections since "retiring" after his successful second run as Governor. His recommendations closely echo OakPAC's endorsements...great minds think alike! :-)
