Material exploitation?
Michael Hagenlock
01:47:31
These are perfect examples of why we do not accept Care Giver Stress as a defense or excuse for Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation. Care Giver Stress is real; however it is how we deal with the stress that makes a difference.
Tovah Kasdin
01:48:14
Does anyone have supportive resources for caregivers to help with early intervention?

It's deliberate. The Big Pharma companies have been drug pushing for years onto providers... who are too ready to prescribe liberally.

02:13:32
Unaccountability systemically.

02:13:46
Does anyone on the panel or among the participants have successful, evidence-based tool kits for discussing appropriate medication management? Many older adults live with chronic pain and are able to function when their pain is managed by opioids. But if their medication management is a problem, they run the risk of losing their prescription.
crobinson
02:13:49
Education to identify the signs of Abuse are going to help many more people understand the problems and how to re-act.

Suggestion- when an older adult on Rx passes away or moves to a LTC facility - get the drugs out of the house. I have seen it happen where a recently widowed older woman became addicted to her deceased husband's pain meds - she thought 'hey, hate to see it go to waste and that darn arthritis hurts so much" .. thankfully, a daughter caught on and had a RN relative talk to the mom and she was able to stop with doc followup
Lyn Carter
02:16:43
Regarding removal of medications, when my mother-in-law passed away at home this summer, the coroner's office removed the medications that were present. They didn't do an exhaustive search, but it appeared that all of her pill bottles were within arm's reach of her chair.
